The Library and Information History Group (LIHG) was formed in 1962. It is one of the CILIP's oldest special interest groups and is the only group in the UK specifically devoted to the history of information, libraries and librarianship.
The LIHG organises an annual conference, regular seminars, walking tours, and visits to libraries and archives. It supports action for the preservation of library records, artefacts and buildings. Because we are a small group with no branches we hold regular committee meetings around the country and an AGM which consists of a committee meeting, followed by a visit and/or lecture. LIHG members are welcome to attend committee meetings, including the AGM, as observers. Our members include academics, librarians, researchers, retired librarians and students, as well as those with a general interest in library and information history.
We are strongly committed to promoting awareness of the history of libraries and information, as well as increasing access to resources for historians. LIHG publishes a quarterly newsletter as well as the reputed journal, Library & Information History.
