Vacancy: Web Editor

Introduction

The Library and Information History Group (LIHG) was formed in 1962. It is one of the Chartered Institute for Library and Information Professional's oldest special interest groups and is the only group in the UK specifically devoted to the history of libraries and librarianship.  The Website Editor ensures that the Group’s website is accurate and updated regularly to reflect the Group’s business and activities.

Key responsibilities:

Maintain and update the website:

  • Become familiar with and take responsibility for the design and presentation of the Group’s website.
  • Produce and maintain high quality readable content as and when required, including posting the Group’s newsletter and maintaining links to the Group’s digital resources.
  • Maintain the committee’s business documents and work with the Secretary to advertise the AGM and other meetings.
  • Correct errors, periodically check for broken links, and report any problems to the CILIP web team.
  • Comply with copyright, privacy, and data protection regulations.


Source new content:

  • Source new blogs, news posts and links for the Resources page.
  • Build relationships with other library and information history professionals.
  • Source images and copyright permissions.


    Reporting and statistics

  • Report on the website to committee meetings.
  • Build relationships with CILIP’s web team and request annual reports on the website’s traffic.


    Maintain digital files

  • Maintain the Group’s digital files, including previous newsletters, minutes and agendas of meetings, etc.(This material was previously stored on the CILIP’s VLE but is currently ‘homeless’.)
  • Investigate alternative options for storing digital files.

 

Vacancy: Conference Organiser

Introduction

The Library and Information History Group (LIHG) was formed in 1962. It is one of the Chartered Institute for Library and Information Professional's oldest special interest groups and is the only group in the UK specifically devoted to the history of libraries and librarianship. The committee is proactive and enthusiastic in promoting the history of libraries and information and aims to organise visits, talks and events that attract a wide and diverse audience. The Group is made up of volunteers who meet 3-4 times per year (latterly, with at least two of these meetings online). 

The conference organiser is responsible for the Group’s annual one-day conference (which has previously been in person or online – or both).

Key responsibilities

Develop conference content

  • Propose and develop a theme and the annual call for papers, supported by the committee.
  • Receive and consider submitted proposals, aided by the committee.
  • Be the primary point of contact for speakers.

Event organisation

  • Work closely with the Group’s Treasurer to cost the event effectively.
  • For in-person events, arrange a venue and liaise with the venue’s events person.
  • For online events, set up a suitable platform and recruit volunteers for technical support.

Recruit and support participants

  • Administer bookings for the event (currently the Group uses EventBrite).
  • Prepare content to advertise the conference for the Group’s newsletter and social media.
  • Be the primary point of contact for participants.

 

Vacancy: Marketing and Social Media Officer

Introduction

The Library and Information History Group (LIHG) was formed in 1962. It is one of the Chartered Institute for Library and Information Professional's oldest special interest groups and is the only group in the UK specifically devoted to the history of libraries and librarianship. The committee is proactive and enthusiastic in promoting the history of libraries and information and aims to organise visits, talks and events that attract a wide and diverse audience. The Group is made up of volunteers who meet 3-4 times per year (latterly, with at least two of these meetings online).

The Marketing and Social Media Officer is responsible for promoting the work of the group, working closely with the Newsletter Editor and Website Editor.

Key responsibilities

Mailing lists

  • Make effective use of the Bulletin to distribute content to the LIHG members (access to and training in CILIP's platform will be arranged with CILIP).
  • Be responsible for advertising LIHG opportunities (see below) on appropriate non-CILIP mailing lists (e.g. JISCMail, SHARP etc).
  • Look for other channels through which the group, and its aims, may be promoted.

 

Promote LIHG opportunities

  • In collaboration with the Events Coordinator and Conference Organiser, generate content to promote the group's events and calls for papers.
  • In collaboration with the Awards and Bursaries Officer and Newsletter Editor, ensure that the group's bursaries and awards are promoted at the appropriate time.

 

Support and publicise work in the field of Library & Information History

  • Develop relationships with related groups, librarians, academics and researchers, to promote their work in areas relating to the group's aims.
  • Arrange live coverage of the group's events and conference on social media as appropriate.
  • Liaise with the Journal Editors to generate submissions to, and promote relevant articles in, the group's journal, Library and Information History.
