The Library and Information History Group is one of CILIP’s oldest special interest groups. It provides members with an understanding of how the history of libraries, librarianship and information is essential to all library and information
professionals and represents the historical conscience of information professionals.
The LIHG supports action for the preservation of library records, artefacts and buildings and is committed to increasing access to resources for researchers. The Group fosters a community of expertise to promote, support, and disseminate research;
to educate and inform; to advocate on behalf of libraries; to represent CILIP on historic issues; and to advise CILIP policy in our area.
In order to achieve these objectives effectively, the LIHG maintains links with an international academic community and with organisations within and outside the library world. The Group is run by a volunteer committee which meets in person
twice a year and online twice a year, with online discussion in between meetings to facilitate cost-effective administration and to ensure that resources are directed to member benefits.
