Professional Registration Candidates

Supporting you on your journey towards Professional Registration

What support is available?

A dedicated mentor who will help you take a fresh look at your skills and experiences, discover new ideas and perspectives, and provide support through the process.

As well as support from your mentor, your local CILIP Regional Member Network has dedicated Professional Registration Support Officers (PRSOs) who will help you through the Professional Registration process.

CILIP’s skills map, the Professional Knowledge and Skills Base, is an interactive tool that helps identify your strengths, areas for development and helps plot your progress.

Practical guides, tips and resources are available once you have enrolled.

Professional Registration workshops can be remote or face to face across the country providing an opportunity meet fellow candidates and go through the process in more detail.

A dedicated team at CILIP are available to answer any questions you have and provide support via the Forum on the website.

Finding a mentor

Having a mentor is not compulsory, but they can be a key part of your Professional Registration journey as they are there to guide and develop you throughout the process. All of our mentors have completed the CILIP mentorship training programme and know how to support you to successfully complete your Professional Registration.

Once you have enrolled for a level of Professional Registration, a full list of our registered mentors will be made available to you.

We recommend you choose a CILIP mentor in a different sort of organisation from yourself. This will make it easier to discuss service performance objectively and helps with acquiring wider professional knowledge. Though you may choose a CILIP mentor within your organisation, your line manager must not be your mentor as this would make it difficult to evaluate things objectively.

Once you have found someone who is willing to mentor you, you need to set up your first meeting – this can be in person, on the phone, or online.

Can’t find what you need?

Post your question on the Forum in the candidates' area of the website.
