Metadata and Discovery Freshers Fair

Tuesday 15 October 2024, 12.00pm - 1.00pm

Delivered via Zoom

Join us at the Metadata and Discovery Freshers Fair for an exclusive look behind the scenes and meet members of the MDG committee. Speakers will offer insight into committee activities and their own professional roles within the metadata and discovery landscape.

The session will commence with an introduction to the committee, including its purpose and membership. Following this, we will provide a concise overview of the steps involved in becoming a metadata professional. Subsequently, a presentation on Resource Description and Access (RDA) will be delivered.

To showcase the broader applications of metadata, we will then highlight three key areas of metadata work beyond traditional cataloguing. Finally, we will extend an invitation to potential new members to join our committee.

12:00 Introduction to MDG and its activities - Will Peaden
12:10 How to get into Cataloguing - Anne Welsh
12:15 RDA matters - Jenny Wright
12:25 Metadata transformation - Fran Frenzel
12:35 MARCEdit task list - Ceilan Hunter-Green
12:45 Publisher metadata - Concetta La Spada
