Metadata and Discovery Freshers Fair Tuesday 15 October 2024, 12.00pm - 1.00pmDelivered via Zoom Join us at the Metadata and Discovery Freshers Fair for an exclusive look behind the scenes and meet members of the MDG committee. Speakers will offer insight into committee activities and their own professional roles within the metadata and discovery landscape. The session will commence with an introduction to the committee, including its purpose and membership. Following this, we will provide a concise overview of the steps involved in becoming a metadata professional. Subsequently, a presentation on Resource Description and Access (RDA) will be delivered.
To showcase the broader applications of metadata, we will then highlight three key areas of metadata work beyond traditional cataloguing. The Metadata and Discovery Group (MDG) is a CILIP Special Interest Group promoting best practice in resourcing discovery and collection management.
What does MDG do? MDG is actively engaged in the development and maintenance of metadata standards, including RDA, seeking to work in partnership with the organisations and groups responsible for their advancement. MDG unites all those with an interest in metadata and discovery, including colleagues working in the cultural sector, business and commerce and the publishing industry. MDG works with regional cataloguing and metadata special interest groups to provide training and networking opportunities as well as a biennial conference. MDG publishes an open access online journal Catalogue and Index. MDG advises CILIP on matters concerning bibliographic control. Learn More
