Libraries under attack: how can we best support colleagues overseas?

Wednesday 4 March 2026, 12.30pm - 1.30pm

Delivered via Zoom

Across the world, library and information professionals are facing unprecedented challenges including war, censorship, cyberattacks, and more. How can we, as a global community, respond effectively and ethically?

Join the International Library and Information Group (ILIG) for a thought-provoking session where we tackle this urgent question. Together, we will explore:

- CILIP’s Charter, International Strategy, and Ethical Framework
- How other national and international associations are addressing these issues
- Practical, actionable steps CILIP can take to support colleagues

This session will help foster:

>> A greater awareness of threats to libraries and library workers across the world.
>> A greater familiarity with relevant CILIP policies.
>> Practical suggestions for voluntary activity.

Get to know the incredible CILIP Communities - our volunteer networks who meet regularly to programme events, trainings and conferences and publish journals, blogs and newsletters. Any CILIP member can join our community groups, attend events and/or get involved with the committee and help shape the future of their work...

International Library and Information Group (ILIG) is a CILIP Special Interest Group (SIG) of librarians devoted to a shared special interest in global librarianship.

CILIP ILIG runs regular online and occasional face-to-face events about international librarianship best practice and networking.  Our Journal, Focus, is published electronically 2-3 per year, and has a proud 50+ year history.  We are always looking for contributions and articles (see the Focus page for more information).

Currently, we offer one bursary, the annual Alan Hopkinson (IFLA) Award, intended to help fund attendance at the annual IFLA Conference.
