The Common Room celebrates the region’s engineering history through education and engagement, with a vision to inspire the next generation of innovators and engineers using unique heritage collections including the library and archive of the North of
England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers. The Grade II* listed building has undergone a massive £8.9m refurbishment project to fully modernise the facilities whilst enhancing and protecting the heritage spaces within.
Come and see behind the scenes with Jen Hillyard, Library and Archives Manager, who will take the group around the building including the newly created Archive Room and book stores and explain the challenges of packing, removing and returning over 800
crates of material.
