The programme for the event is available here. Dr Andrew Cox, author of the CILIP Tech Review is our Keynote speaker. Details about his talk are below. Health Information professionals and Artificial Intelligence The talk begins by suggesting four contrasting ways in which AI could be defined: as new functionality for knowledge work, a set of technologies, a global industry and an idea. Each definition prompts different thoughts about its implications for the work of health information professionals – including its ethical challenges. Then some of the direct and indirect ways AI will touch information work are presented, such as employing it to provide services to users, supporting wider organisational uses and in the management of users. The second part of the talk explores some of the unique and critical ways health information professionals can contribute to AI, in terms of knowledge and skills, attitudes, values and vision. Andrew Cox is a senior lecturer at the Information School, University of Sheffield. Much of his research has been around the impact of information professionals in such areas as the management of research data, in supporting well-being, in the management of space, and mostly recently their potential roles in artificial intelligence. Author of around 100 peer reviewed articles, his work includes The impact of AI, machine learning, automation and robotics on the information professions: A report for CILIP.
