Servant Leadership

Friday 27th September 2024, 1:00pm - 2:00pm

Delivered via Zoom

Leadership is one of the most critical factors in the success or failure of an organization and can greatly impact the health and well-being of all participants, especially lower participants (Kendrick, Kaetrena Davis, 2020). In Robert Greenleaf’s 1970 book, Servant as Leader, he posits that a leader should be a servant first, seeking the health and development of all participants in an organization. The purpose of our research is to investigate how much has been written in the periodical literature of librarianship about servant leadership, the nature of the coverage, and if servant leadership is being implemented in libraries as it was conceptualized by Greenleaf.

Join us to discover more about this research.

There will be time at the end of the session for a Q&A so that you can put your questions forward to Darlene and Simone.

Dr. Darlene Ann Parrish has a Ph.D. in Library and Information Studies from Florida State University with an area of emphasis in organizational behavior. Her dissertation research investigated the impact of leadership behavior on organizational commitment and perceptions of job autonomy of information services librarians. Prior to completing her dissertation, she published two articles on stress and burnout with the chair of her dissertation committee, Dr. Ronald Blazek. Since 2009, she has been working as the Assessment Librarian for Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Libraries, Boca Raton, Florida, after being originally hired by the FAU Libraries as the Business Librarian.

Simone Clunie is the Assistant Head of Cataloging & Metadata with the Binghamton University Libraries. Simone has worked in libraries since her undergraduate days and has worked mostly in academic libraries in Technical Services, Access Services and Special Collections.
