CILIP London: Tour of British Museum Anthropology Library & Research Centre; The History of the Round Reading Room
Thursday 15th January - 10:00am-11:30am
Considering the recent reopening of the Round Reading Room to the public in July 2024, the librarians and archivists at the Anthropology Library & Research Centre have assembled a tour and visit with materials documenting the history of the collection. The tour will take place in the Anthropology Library & Research Centre. Archives will display documents that show the original Round Reading Room’s construction as the first public library and the library team will take you through a brief history of the library collection and the library’s current remit and management of the library. We will pull out some of our contrasting rare items for context. Visitors will then see the original Reading Room where there is information detailing some of the well-known library members. From there, visitors are welcome to disperse to see the free galleries if they wish. Attendees can lock their bags in lockers in the space. All attendees will be subject to a bag check. We ask that no water or food is taken into the library space.
This event is relevant to PKSB areas: - Area 01: Collection Management and Development
- Area 08: Records Management and Archiving
This event is free for members and £5 for non-members. Maximum 15 attendees. All attendees must give first and last names for security reasons.
