On Wednesday 4 December 2024 Sue will be in Manchester and would like to invite members to come and meet her and hear her speak at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Sue Lacey Bryant is the current vice-president of CILIP and will be our president in 2025. Sue will provide a brief outline of her career to date, her predictions for the future of our profession and her plans for her year as president.

There will be plenty of time for opportunities for questions and comments from members, so we look forward to welcoming you to this free event.

Sue’s brief bio:

  • I started out as a Library Assistant at the University of Birmingham. Five decades later, I have recently retired from my role as Chief Knowledge Officer for the NHS across England. Although when I say 'retire', I am excited to be the Vice President of CILIP and the voluntary role of Visiting Professor in knowledge and information mobilisation at Manchester Metropolitan University.

  • My first health role was at Croydon Health Authority as a Health Education/Information Officer in 1982. Since joining the former Health Education England in 2013, I have successfully led the development and implementation of the Knowledge for Healthcare strategy and was the Programme Manager for the ground-breaking Topol Review.
  • I am passionate about bringing knowledge to bear on decision-making. Beginning my career in academic libraries, I developed my interest in professional education at The Library Association (now CILIP). I later found my niche in the NHS. I enjoyed a portfolio career as an independent information specialist, supporting clients like Doctors.net.uk and Cooperation for Development, alongside forging an innovative role as a practice librarian and then as a knowledge manager in primary care. I went on to become a director of a Clinical Commissioning Group before joining Health Education England.
  • My interests lie in knowledge management, workforce development and quality improvement. I was delighted to help instigate CILIP’s research report on the impact of AI, machine learning and robotics on the information professions in 2021. In 2018 I was honoured to receive the CILIP Knowledge & Information Management Walford Award and to have received the Cyril Barnard Memorial Prize this year.
