Group visit to Bristol Zoo Library & Archive

Bristol Zoo library is a place where you can find books and journals about zoology, horticulture, conservation, animals or veterinary science. The library is also a place where you can work alone or with others, relax and read our selection of journals, or simply use your laptop to go on internet. The library provides: A place to study; Over 4,000 books; Over 1,000 journals issues; Free wireless internet access; Friendly service from the librarian.

Times and programme: Meet around 10.40 to 10.45 just inside the Zoo’s main exit door, (next to the loos),
to enable a prompt start in the Conservation Education Centre. Please gather there and let one of the gate
staff know you have arrived. The Librarian will come over to meet us and show us to the CEC.


11.00-12.00 – Dr Daphne Kerhoas, Lecturer – overview of HE teaching programmes and field research.

12.00-13.00 – Siobhan Klaus, Librarian – library talk and tour, covering the core service for the library and
archive collections, their history, including cataloging and classification, funding and challenges.

13.00-14.00 – Social / networking lunch (bring your own).

14.00-15.00 – Dave Naish, Education Manager – education in the zoo, including research and fieldwork; and
an overview of the education team, including the principles of making education sessions effective, living
resources, biofacts and customs seizures.

We aim to finish the whole event at around 3pm.
