Library Safari - Penzance Town

Penzance Town is the most westerly major town in Cornwall, well known for the magnificent St. Michaels Mount and the beautiful art deco outdoor Jubilee Pool. This tour will offer a flavour of the range of library and information services available in
a relatively small coastal town. It will also provide the opportunity to gain an insight on the jobs involved in the different sectors and a chance to build up professional networks.
Rail and bus links, although there will be some walking between venues.

Starting the day with a visit to the two Learning Centres at Penwith College. Penwith College was founded in 1980 and merged with Truro College opened in 1993, in 2008. The merge brought a £30 million investment programme resulting in new state of the
art buildings. The college has free parking onsite.

Penzance Public Library, St John’s Hall, Alverton Street, Penzance, TR18 2QW
A short walk downhill to Penzance Library and Information Service, formerly housed adjacent to the Penzance School of Art in Morrab Road. The library relocated to St Johns Hall in 2016 when the library service amalgamated with the Council One Stop Shop.
There is a public car park behind the building.

Penzance School of Art, Morrab Road, TR18
If time we will pop in before or after the lunchbreak
Penzance School of Art was founded in 1853 and is now managed by the Truro-Penwith Academy Trust, offering a wide variety of Adult Education classes. It also houses a small art library. The adjoining building was home to the Public Library for many years
before the move to St Johns Hall.

The Morrab Library, Morrab Gardens, Penzance, TR18 4DA
A short walk from the Orangery, Morrab Library is located in the sub-tropical Morrab Gardens. Established in 1818, Morrab Library is an independent subscription library, housing over 70,000 books, specialist collections, rare books, and a photographic
archive.
