Do you or your family or your colleagues or your users or clients ever worry or talk about how to cope when someone (including yourself) can no longer manage their own affairs? How do you get a trusted person in place – with the appropriate legal documentation – who can arrange and coordinate everything that is needed, without enormous expense and massive delays?

Do any of you ever discuss why it’s so important to have a will and where best to lodge it? Do you know what happens to everything when people die without a will, or with a poorly drafted or out of date will, and who has to sort it all out? And how much that could cost? Are there children from a previous relationship or do you just need to safeguard your assets as much as possible, whatever the reason (e.g. remarriage after death or exposure to long term care)?

CILIP SW has invited Michelle Jones to give CILIP members a presentation and answer some questions about these wide-ranging circumstances. She is an Executive for Complex Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney & Will Trusts, with BBH Legal Services Limited, a subsidiary law firm wholly owned by Thompsons Solicitors.
