Society of Indexers Coffee Morning Zoom meeting

On behalf of the Society of Indexers (SI), the professional body representing book indexers in the UK and Ireland, members of the CILIP Metadata and Discovery Group are invited to attend a Coffee Morning Zoom meeting with indexers that is taking place on Thursday 21st November at 11am-12pm UK time.

The Society of Indexers holds these meetings every month as a chance for indexers to catch up on "the 3Gs – gossip, gripes and good news". They are very informal, and nobody is required to present anything, or even to talk, unless they so wish.

For this upcoming meeting, the proposed topic is to chat about the areas of crossover between the work of indexers and library and information professionals. Many indexers started their careers in information work, and a number members of the Society also work as librarians, cataloguers and archivists. Librarians are important users of indexes, and they are also the people that indexers rely upon to teach readers – adults and children – how to use the indexes Indexers write. There are also debates among indexers about how much their work should, and does, resemble cataloguing.
