Practical Cataloguing Webinar 4: Exhibition Catalogues for newbies to art collections and/or cataloguing!
Date: Tuesday 28th October 2025, 1-2 pm
Presenters: Amy Staniforth, Yamuna Ravindran & Margaret Robinson
The Drawing Room public gallery received Andrew Mellon funding to catalogue a portion of its library in the summer of 2025. It was Amy's job to catalogue the resources and to develop a catalogue template and training materials for the librarian Yamuna and volunteers like Margaret.
Together with participants we will work through the template that we developed for use in a basic library management system. We will catalogue an exhibition catalogue while looking at some of the issues that have frequently challenged us on the project. The session will be less about creating the perfect record and more about developing a welcoming and informal approach to starting to catalogue specific materials in your collections. Using our experience of working towards enriched metadata for the Drawing Room's users, we plan to inspire participants to begin their own projects with more confidence.
Yamuna joined Drawing Room in 2013 to help set up the library and looks after the development of the research collection and programme. She studied BA Art History, MA Contemporary Art Theory and MA Library & Information Studies and her current research interests include community publishing and auralities.
Amy is a library consultant and a metadata librarian at Aberystwyth University. After studying in the United States, a PhD in East African history and a stint as a BBC researcher, Amy found her home in libraries. She was CILIP's Relationship Manager for Wales for four years where she worked with libraries in health, schools, further and higher education, and with public libraries and the National Library. Now Amy can pick her projects and most recently has worked with Drawing Room cataloguing their exhibition catalogues.
Margaret joined Drawing Room as a volunteer in March 2024. Following a Degree in German she started her library career as a Sconul trainee at the Institute of Germanic Studies in London and then studied for a PG Diploma at Manchester Polytechnic. She worked at King's College London firstly in the Acquisitions and Serials Department, where she learnt to update journals on the Union List of Serials. She then spent a number of years in Circulation and Lending Services until she left King's in 2013. Since leaving King's she has organised a small Diocesan Library.
