CLSIG post-AGM seminar: Meditation and daily life - finding calm and understanding

During the current state of global uncertainty many of us have had to make major adjustments to our normal daily lives, and many of us are looking for a sense of stability and reassurance amongst all the unknowns we face. In this talk we will explore a traditional meditation practice called ‘Samatha meditation’, which uses our experience of the breath to help bring calm and understanding into our daily lives. There will be a chance to try a short meditation practice.

Seminar

During the current state of global uncertainty many of us have had to make major adjustments to our normal daily lives. Some of us have had more time at home to reflect and look inwards, while others of us have been even busier than usual, trying to juggle our various challenges and commitments. In either case, many of us are looking for a sense of stability and reassurance amongst all the unknowns we face.

In this talk we will explore a traditional meditation called ‘Samatha meditation’, which uses our experience of the breath to help bring calm and understanding into our daily lives. There will be a chance to try a short meditation practice and to explore what meditation means to us in the modern world.

The emphasis will be on meditation as an aid to wellbeing – all welcome, whatever your faith or worldview – and no previous experience necessary!

You may like to have a couple of cushions to hand for the meditation practice, although sitting on a chair rather than the floor will work just as well.

Presenter

Our seminar leader, Gwil Wright, worked for many years as an information professional in various law firms across London. He is also a teacher of traditional Buddhist Samatha meditation. For more information about Samatha meditation please visit www.samatha.org
