Webinar Wednesday

Reflective Practices and Learning via Professional Communities of Practice

Much of the literature on knowledge management and organisational learning in hierarchical organisations reflects on communities of practice (CoP) as important means for facilitating collaboration and transferring knowledge across different boundaries. Yet, the role of CoP in making a shift from reductionist mindset to reflective practice and from siloed work in teams, projects, divisions, and functions to collective and collaborative reflection in- and on-action and learning have received very little attention.

This webinar adds to an ongoing debate on knowledge management and learning in hierarchical organisations and presents the findings of the research on cultivation of professional CoP within a hierarchical client organisation that manages multi-billion-pound infrastructure programs and projects. The concepts of boundary spanning and reflective practice are mobilised to highlight the role of CoP in enabling reflection in- and on-action, collaborative enterprise-wide learning and knowledge transfer across hierarchical boundaries.
