Antonio Becchi, Max Planck Institute, Berlin, & Warburg Institute
In 1862 the Prussian Königliche Bibliothek (Berlin) acquired an important part of the Albani manuscript collection that was originally divided into two libraries formed by the Albani family in Urbino and Rome. A year later the ship transporting the Albani manuscripts from Leghorn to Hamburg sank in the Atlantic and the precious cargo was completely lost. Many Albani manuscripts are now scattered all around the world.
