UKeiG 2022 Members' Day and Annual General Meeting by Zoom Conferencing

Thursday 9th June 2022 - 1:00 pm to 3:30pm

This year's UKeIG Members'Day and AGM will focus on AI and Library Technology Ecosystem. Join us to find out more about this very topical issue and network with other information professionals.

1 p.m. AGM

1.30 to 2.30 p.m. Ken Chad - The Library Technology Ecosystem: Where We Are Now, What Does the Future Hold?

.For many years library technology was sequestered in a narrow domain characterised by library specific technology and standards. Librarians now play a growing role in support for research, open science, teaching and learning, digital skills, learning analytics, student success, wellbeing, and other areas. It’s now more appropriate to speak of a library technology ‘ecosystem’. Ken will analyse how this might develop in the future and how technology might evolve.

2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Andrew Cox - Artificial Intelligence - What you need to know.

.The talk reflects on some differing conceptualisations of Artificial Intelligence, each with different implications for how we thread it into our practices as information professionals. It will then offer some thoughts on how well our skills and knowledge  translate to an AI driven world; and how our ethics and values apply in this context.

Dr Andrew Cox is a senior lecturer at the Information School, University of Sheffield, UK.
His research revolves around how the information profession respond to contemporary challenges such as datafication and AI, the digital shift, and the perceived crisis in mental health and wellbeing.

 3.30 p.m. Close
