UKeiG CPD Zoom Course:Alternatives to PowerPoint
Thursday, 25th September 2025 - 12 Noon to 2 pm

Overview
Learn how to create impactful and memorable presentations that move beyond the PowerPoint template.
For presenters who want flexible, collaborative options that go beyond the traditional slide format, there are dynamic and engaging ways to present your ideas. This course will explore several practical and innovative tools which can be used for free.
Who should attend?
This course will be of interest to all librarians, IT and information professionals from any sector who publicise and promote services on behalf of their institution, deliver presentations or training and who want to market their resources and services more effectively.
The course will up-skill experienced presenters and teachers but also benefit junior colleagues who are keen to develop their skills. It's relevant to anyone who delivers induction sessions and information skills workshops but are keen to embrace alternative applications to improve their internal communications with staff, students and work colleagues, or raise their professional profile externally at conferences and events.
Course outline and learning outcomes:
Delegates will be introduced to:
- Sway – a Microsoft tool which allows you create presentations and reports with embedded content
- Prezi – the zooming presentation software which specialises in non-linear storytelling
- Google Slides – a presentation software which allows for easy collaboration with colleagues both inside and outside your institution, and allows for audience interaction via its Q&A feature
- Menti – more than just a quizzing tool, Menti can be used to make entire presentations, with or without interactive elements.
These tools are free and can be used for variety of presentation styles.
