Following six years' experience on communications and community liaison at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras festival, Matt Akersten joined the team delivering Sydney WorldPride 2023. It was the first time WorldPride had been hosted in the Southern Hemisphere. His role as Pride and Diversity Officer helped strengthen the global pride network and ensure the festival was as accessible and welcoming as possible to diverse attendees from across the world. He created and delivered Diversity and Inclusion Training to a wide range of stakeholders including community organisations, corporate sponsors, festival venues, travel companies and cultural institutions.
