Working smarter in a time of change
The conference covers the following strands:

We are pleased to offer an excellent selection of workshops which will be practical and will allow participants to engage with new content and to understand new and creative approaches to working smarter. There will be a number of short presentations which will share with delegates the positives and negatives of working smarter in a time of change. We are also offering a number of show and tell sessions which allow colleagues to share initiatives and work on no more than two slides followed by engagement with delegates to discuss work further in an informal setting. Also included will be some lightening talks which provide an opportunity to share new, exciting and interesting projects from the last year with delegates.

Keynote Speakers
David Stewart (CILIP President)
David Stewart is Director of Health Libraries North – leading the strategic development, co-ordination and monitoring of all NHS library and knowledge services across the North of England. David is a CILIP Trustee and Board member and founder of both the CHILL and HEALER networks. He is part of the strategic NHS library leads group that is delivering Knowledge for Healthcare, Health Education England’s framework for service development.
Previous posts include Director of Information Services at the Royal Society of Medicine and Deputy Director of Health Libraries in Oxford Region. David has a first degree in medieval & modern history from Birmingham University, qualified as a librarian in 1981 at Birmingham Polytechnic and obtained his CILIP Fellowship in 2012.
Katharine Schopflin (Information Governance Lead at London Borough of Hackney)
Katharine Schopflin has over 20 years experience as a librarian and information manager in sectors including central and local government, technology and the media. During her time working at broadcasters the BBC and ITN, she worked closely with the media library community and was Chair of the Association of UK Media Librarians. She holds a PhD in Library and Information Studies from University College London and is the author of three books for Facet Publishing. She currently works as part of the Information Management team in a London local authority.
Sheila MacNeil (Chair of ALT)
Sheila MacNeill is an educational technology developer, academic, speaker, writer and artist who has worked in the education section for over 20 years. With a passion for ensuring that people are at the heart of any educational experience, Sheila has a wide range of experiences from teaching on form academic development programmes, to developing and running learning design workshops, to developing staff CPD, developing digital capabilities and overall strategic visions for digital learning and teaching. Sheila’s latest book Conceptualising the Digital University; the intersection of policy, pedagogy and practice proposes a new conceptual model for strategic developments within Universities based on critical pedagogy and informed by information literacy. Sheila is the current Chair of the Association for Learning Technology (www.alt.ac.uk), is active blogger sharing her views on on her practice and wider issues relating to sectoral developments at http://howsheilaseesit.net/. and can be found on twitter @sheilmcn.
Lis Parcell (Subject Specialsit - Libraries and Digitial Resources, JISC)
Lis Parcell is Subject specialist: digital practice (learning resources and libraries) at Jisc. Her current role involves providing support and advice for learning resources services and libraries in further and higher education to help them make the most of the opportunities presented by digital technology. She has worked in and around academic libraries in a variety of roles for over 30 years, witnessing how they have evolved and adapted to technology change to improve the lives of their communities. She began her library career at Oxford University, obtained her MA in Librarianship at Sheffield and held academic library posts at Chatham House and Swansea University. While at Swansea she was an active member of ARLG’s predecessor UC&R for many years, learning many of the skills that equipped her to ‘jump ship’ to the Regional Support Centre for Wales, supporting further education colleges with their early steps into technology. Since 2015 she has worked with organisations across the UK, helping them to make the best use of digital practice with the library or learning resources service at the centre. Lis sees engagement with CILIP professional activities as a constant thread in a highly varied and fast-moving working environment. She is also a member of the UKSG Education and Events Subcommittee.
