This session will be led by Sarah Field, Liaison Librarian for Sciences at the University of Kent, and Emma Mires-Richards, Liaison Librarian for Centre for English and World Languages (CEWL), School of European Culture and Languages (SECL), and Psychology at the University of Kent. Both Emma and Sarah have been involved in work aiming to diversify the curriculum at their institution.

Their session will focus on the collaborative efforts across the University of Kent to diversify the curriculum via reading lists. The Library team and Student Success project have worked together to develop a strategy to increase and sustain diversity in module reading lists with students acting as crucial leaders. We will share how we are supporting academics to incorporate more diverse perspectives and authors through our Diversity Mark Award and the road to engaging colleagues to get involved in building representative collections.

Attendees can expect:

  • practical insights and examples from case studies at the University of Kent
  • access to training formats and toolkit to consider for diversifying library collections
  • an opportunity for discussion around how librarians can support this work within HE institutions
