RBSCG in Conversation is an open forum for members of the rare books and special collections community to share questions, concerns, and creative solutions to current issues. Our next discussion will be led by Carissa Chew, the Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion intern at the National Library of Scotland. She did her undergraduate degree in English Literature & History at the University of Edinburgh before completing an MPhil in World History at the University of Cambridge. As part of the continuing review and development of non-discriminatory Library cataloguing practices, the National Library of Scotland is engaged in an ongoing review of language and representation relating to protected characteristics and other areas of cultural sensitivity. This talk will explore some of the practical ways that institutions can approach these kinds of descriptive issues, from policy work to content advice and filters, with particular focus on the Inclusive Terminology Guide & Glossary and Cultural Heritage Terminology network that Carissa has put together. Participants are encouraged to look over the first draft of the Inclusive Terminology Guide & Glossary: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1C3fjqUi0nmAjhghzAO2FXxUbdbqX0fJo/view?usp=sharing You are also invited to join the Cultural heritage Terminology Network via the following Slack link https://join.slack.com/t/culturalherit-pjg3186/shared_invite/zt-p77f9ket-1kfK97y_syz0_Ij0x9tBxw To submit a question for discussion in advance of the session, please email Christine Megowan (MegowanC@cardiff.ac.uk)
