ScopeThe Metadata and Discovery Group and The Metadata and Discovery Group Scotland are proud to invite participants for a World Cafe event on the topic of the future of serials metadata. Following a series of World Cafe events run by CIGS and CIG in 2019 on the future of cataloguing, MDG and MDGS would like to bring together serials cataloguers to discuss the future of serials cataloguing in the UK. The focus of these discussions will be on current practice and standards, alongside training and CPD needs with this community. There will be four discussion tables on the topics of: - Training
- Standards
- Data management
- Discovery
It is expected that a good deal of focus will be on electronic resource management and that this will cross all the topic areas. You may wish to review our panel discussion on serials from our 2020 conference available here from our YouTube channel. LocationConsidering the current situation, the world cafe will be held on Zoom. The format of the day will be: - A brief introduction to the day
- Four facilitated discussions of 30 minutes each. All participants will have an opportunity to discuss each topic
- A summing up session at the end where each facilitator will relate back the discoveries and overall tenor of the topics discussed and a general discussion.
Who should attendWe encourage anyone with an interest in or professional involvement with serials cataloguing at any level. Experts and beginners are all welcome. All participants are encouraged to think of specific examples of both difficult challenging materials and instances of great success. CostsThe event is free to attend however, numbers will be limited to 40.
