The aim of our Autumn Regathering is to bring people back together, share innovative work and highlight the ways in which library and information professionals from all sectors are essential to a changing world and today’s rapidly evolving circumstances. Our exciting array of topics and speakers includes:

• The Impact of AI, Machine Learning, Automation and Robotics on the Information Profession – in this session, we will hear from Senior Information School Lecturer Dr Andrew Cox, who has recently authored a CILIP-funded research report that aims to help information professionals understand how AI, machine learning, process automation and robotics are either already impacting the daily work of healthcare professionals or likely to do so in the near future.

• Maddie is Online: Digital Literacy in Young People w ith Dr Konstantina Martzoukou, Emma Grey and Niall MacDonald – ‘Maddie is Online’ is an online video cartoon series that addresses the everyday life experiences of pre-teen children in the online connected environment, empowering them with the skills they need to deal with challenging phenomenon in their digital lives (including online bullying, managing online information, copyright and ownership, privacy and security, and online reputation).

• Media and Information Literacy: our biggest challenge and opportunity – a panel discussion – With the CILIP-led Media and Information Literacy Alliance taking shape and the Information Literacy Community of Practice pushing forward in Scotland, this session will look at why it has never been more important for library and information professionals to highlight their skills in this area.

•  Innovation in Public Libraries: the Use of Virtual Reality with East Renfrewshire Libraries

• Information Professionals Can Wear Many Hats!  Building on the success of her booked-out online employability workshop ,  Ania Matuszewska, a Systems Librarian at NHS Lanarkshire, will facilitate this fascinating in-person session to examine transferable skills and competencies in LIS: empowering Autumn Regathering attendees to explore a variety of job opportunities and possibilities for professional reinvention.

• What does it mean to be a New Professional? The Autumn Regathering will examine recent research into the challenges and opportunities that newer professionals are presented with in Scotland.
