As we approach International Women’s Day 2022, we are delighted to be welcoming Amina Shah, CILIPS President and National Librarian of Scotland, for the latest in our #WINspiration series: championing the cause of women working across all areas of the libraries and information sector in Scotland and beyond.
We’re honoured that Amina is taking the time out from her incredibly busy schedule to share some reflections on what has changed (and what is yet to change) for women working in our sector, the power of positive role models to shape library cultures for the better, and how both strength and vulnerability can be valuable to a 21st century library leader. Interested in discovering how attitudes to pregnancy in library workplaces have altered (prepare to be shocked!) or why Dundee has a legendary heritage of pioneering women? Then join us for this insightful and inspirational in-conversation event!
This unique online learning session is open to all and will take place via Zoom, with joining instructions emailed to attendees a couple of days in advance. We want to ensure that our conversation connects with the issues you care about and what you’d most like to know, so please feel free to email any questions you have for Amina in advance to admin@cilips.org.uk. Please also take a moment to contribute to our new #WINspiration padlet, gathering together the names of women who inspire us and why.
And if you’re still hungry for more ways in which to support women’s empowerment in our sector, why not consult our Feminism for Libraries online resource collection? Recommendations always welcome!
‘This is about culturally shifting the premise of the values that we hold within workplaces… it could be called work like a decent human being! Fairness, kindness, collaboration and values that historically have not been recognised in getting to the top.’ Mary Portas on Work Like a Woman
