Tuesday 8 March, 5.30pm – 7.00pm

Presenter: Michelle Craig (Glasgow University)

Michelle Craig (Glasgow University): `Networks of Book Collecting and Knowledge Exchange in Eighteenth-Century London: the Library of Dr. William Hunter’.

The personal library and museum of the renowned Scottish physician and collector Dr. William Hunter (1718-1783) was a centre for scholarly research and improvement in eighteenth-century London. Using material evidence from his books, catalogues, and manuscript sources, this paper will consider how the books were used both by himself and others and explore some of the communities of collectors and scholars around him.
