The CILIP Rare Books and Special Collections Group invites you to join us for a tour of Lambeth Palace Library, the historic library and record office of the Archbishops of Canterbury and the national library and archive of the Church of England.

The tour is free, but places are limited so registration is required. Participants should meet outside the library at 2:45pm, and the tour will last approximately two hours.

Lambeth Palace Library's collections have been freely available for research from 1610, when it was founded under the will of Archbishop Richard Bancroft. One of the earliest public libraries in the UK, its mission is to promote public access to its collection by welcoming researchers and through public engagement, such as outreach and cultural and academic partnerships.

A new purpose-built library and archives facility designed by Wright & Wright Architects and completed in 2020 is a sensitive addition to the site of the Grade I listed Palace and is the first new building on the site for 185 years

If you have registered and are unable to attend, please notify the event organiser as soon as possible. If you have any questions about this event, please contact Christine Megowan, RBSCG Day Events Organiser at Christine.Megowan@ed.ac.uk
