The CILIP Information Literacy Group is hosting a one day event exploring the role information literacy can play to support decolonisation of the library. This event is aimed at information literacy practitioners and library staff interested in anti-racist teaching, decolonisation and EDI activities and initiatives. Through presentations and discussion we will look at how information literacy is being used to raise awareness of EDI, address inequalities and support change within library's.

Anti-Racist Pedagogy and Decolonising: an Information Literacy perspective

The CILIP Information Literacy Group is hosting a one day event exploring the role information literacy can play to support decolonisation of the library.

This event is aimed at information literacy practitioners and library staff interested in anti-racist teaching, decolonisation and EDI activities and initiatives.

Through presentations and discussion we will look at how information literacy is being used to raise awareness of EDI, address inequalities and support change within library structures and practices.

Speakers on the day are:

Dr Anil Awesti (Assistant Professor, Centre for Lifelong Learning, University of Warwick): Anti- racist teaching at Warwick

Kat Halliday (Academic Support Librarian for Business, University of Warwick Library): Decolonising at Warwick Library

Anne-Lise Harding (Senior Liaison Librarian at the House of Commons): Introducing EDI-focused information literacy at the House of Commons

Hélène Fernandes (Teaching and Learning Support Librarian for Modern & Medieval Languages & Linguistics, University of Cambridge): Decolonising through Critical Librarianship: raising awareness of race within Cambridge libraries

We are also delighted to be able to offer small group guided tours of the archive and a behind the scenes look at relevant collections in the reading room. These are optional within the days event, spaces will be limited so please indicate when booking which session you would like to attend.
