For Banned Books Week 2022, let’s come together to join our sector’s worldwide collective action against the threat of censorship: making the most of our skills, experience and professionalism to fight for intellectual freedom.

This unique, thought-provoking event at 11am on Friday 23rd September, part of the CILIPS online Autumn Gatherings 2022, will feature:

• Martyn Wade, Head of the CILIP Policy Committee, on CILIP’s new intellectual freedom policy-in-progress and the IFLA Advisory Committee on Freedom of Access to Information and Freedom of Expression
• Sue John, a Director of Glasgow Women’s Library, and Wendy Kirk, GWL Librarian, on how library and archive collections can actively challenge censorship past and present
• United Against Book Bans – inspired by the US-founded campaign and toolkit, we will collaborate to work through examples of strong ‘rebuttals’ against the arguments under which censorship is often attempted.
