UKeiG CPD Zoom Course: Strategic Marketing for Libraries
Friday, 9th December 2022 - 10 am to 1 pm
This Zoom course breaks library marketing down into manageable chunks, free of jargon and gimmicks. The focus will be on integrating all your library promotion activities into an effective marketing campaign.
Topics covered include:
Delegates will explore marketing strategically as a non-profit organisation, and then work on segmenting audiences and tailoring messages for each group. The course will cover word of mouth marketing, social media, and how to simplify key messages without dumbing down, before tying everything together in a strategic marketing plan.
Who should attend?
All librarians, IT and information professionals who publicise and promote services on behalf of their institution, and who want to market their resources and services more strategically, efficiently and effectively.
Course outline and learning outcomes
Delegates will receive a template marketing campaign document to work on during the session and then take back to their own institutions to develop.
Everything addressed during the course is designed to be applicable right away, whether you want to better communicate the value of a particular service, or to market your entire library. The course considers the current situation and how marketing libraries has changed during the pandemic.
Participants will:
• Learn
what is - and isn't - important about library marketing
• Gain a better understanding of which channels to use to reach library users
• Begin
their own marketing campaign documentation, using a proven template.

Speakers
Ned Potter
Ned Potter is an Academic Liaison Librarian at the University of York, and a Trainer for various organisations including the Bodleian, the NHS and the British Library in the UK, PiCS in Australasia, and NEFLIN in the US.
His book The Library Marketing Toolkit was published by Facet in 2012. Ned can be found online at ned-potter.com and on Twitter at @ned_potter.
