A CILIP Training Session for Staff Working in Public Libraries

Online, Half-Day Course

26 September 2023 10am-1pm

This half-day online session is all about public libraries –  the history of their development and establishment – and the more recent challenges they face. Delegates will consider the purpose of public libraries, whether book lending is still relevant, and the breadth of their role in providing valuable services to local communities, particularly in the light of the government's new public library strategy expected in Spring 2023.

This course is designed for all staff working in public libraries and is particularly suited to newcomers and those who need a refresher.

Learning Objectives:

  • Increase your understanding of the history of public libraries
  • Identify and discuss key issues with public libraries now
  • Consider future opportunities for public libraries
