UKeiG CPD Zoom Course: Artificial intelligence for information professionals

Thursday, 13th April 2023 - 1 pm to 4 pm

In many ways the library and information profession has already been exposed to forms of AI using functions like auto-suggest, auto-correct, grammar tools, recommendation, search ranking, captioning, auto-summarisation and translation. Text and data mining, data science, digital humanities, data literacy, learning and library analytics are examples of the way librarians are already supporting AI. Many database vendors are also incorporating AI into their products. These are only the beginning of exciting developments that will impact information work profoundly in areas like knowledge discovery and exploring user data, for example. Information professionals may have roles in evaluating systems and products using AI, generating metadata and training users to navigate AI based search systems and acquire data/AI literacy.
This course is an introduction to AI designed specifically for information professionals to enable them to get up to speed on this exciting topic.
As well as introducing the applications of AI in an accessible way, part of the course is hands on. We aim to provide participants with theoretical and practical experience of working with some AI tools

Who should attend?

The course is aimed at any information professional interested in developing an understanding of AI as it applies to their work.
