Diversity in archives.

In 2022 the Welsh Government released the Wales Anti-Racist plan after a lengthy period of consultation and engagement with various communities. This action plan was borne out of necessity, and it was set out to combat structural inequalities in order to make measurable changes in the lives of Black, Asian, and other ethnicities in Wales with the hope achieving a Wales free of racism by the year 2030 through practical approaches. In recent years the world has gained appreciation for diversity, for it is an essential tool for the growth and prosperity in the society. The British Empire is one that spanned across various nations and lasted for many years. Its legacy is still eminent in many institutions of learning, research, and heritage. Thus, When the term decolonisation or diversity is mentioned, archivists are often faced with questions such as “where do we begin? “, “what should we do?” and “How do we do it?” This presentation will be focused on diversity and decolonisation in archives, how/ where to begin, what to be on the lookout for with focus on the National library of Wales decolonization project.
