Sir John Soane (1753-1837) was an English architect who specialised in the Neo-Classical style. His best-known works were the Bank of England and Dulwich Picture Gallery, which was a major influence on the planning of subsequent art galleries and museums.
Sir John Soane’s Museum displays the extraordinary collections he amassed, including antiquities, furniture, sculptures, architectural models and drawings, and paintings including work by Hogarth, Turner and Canaletto.
The Research Library houses Sir John Soane’s collection of 30,000 architectural drawings and 7,000 books, along with a small working library
of modern books and information files on Soane, Robert Adam and other relevant architects. The Archive contains Soane’s business and personal papers.
