Uncataloguing Workshop At BCU
31st July 2024 @ 10 AM
The UK Committee on RDA and the Metadata & Discovery Group with our hosts at BCU and the Mercian Collaboration invite you to an Uncataloguing Workshop, where will explore the basis of creating useful metadata to aid discovery.
No prior knowledge is required, just and interest in and curiosity about library metadata. Both seasoned cataloguers and para-professionals and early career librarians interested in metadata, cataloguing, acquisitions or discovery will find this engaging.
Using pencil and paper exercises, we will explore the merit of different ways of thinking about metadata. Experts will be on hand to explain concepts and answer questions.
The Resource Description and Access (RDA) international standard is aligned with IFLA's Library Reference Model (LRM), a bibliographic conceptual model. RDA is a practical implementation of the model and follows the basic structure of the LRM entities
and relationships. The concepts involved, and the practical ways in which we can apply them, will be addressed in the workshop.
