CILIP SLG is proud to support a new national collaboration with CILIP and Google: the Super Searchers programme. Designed by Google, this initiative aims to enhance information literacy and critical search skills across schools, libraries, and communities. The Super Searchers programme empowers young people with the essential skills to critically evaluate and contextualise online information, understand AI-generated content, and improve overall information literacy. Our goal is to train up to 100,000 public and school library users by the end of the year through a structured, three-tier training programme. The first tier of training was delivered over the summer to a number of library professionals, including our Social Media and Website Officer, Gareth Evans. Now, we’re excited to launch the second tier, giving school librarians the opportunity to access this training via a free interactive webinar, delivered by Gareth. What will the training cover? The webinar will focus on using Google Search tools effectively and will include:
-
Understanding search engines and algorithms
-
Using advanced search techniques
-
Evaluating the credibility and reliability of sources
-
The ethical use of information and AI
This interactive session will build participants’ digital resilience, information literacy, and search confidence. It also aligns with CILIP’s Ethical Framework, promoting trust, transparency, and equitable access to knowledge and information—empowering educators, support staff, and students to make informed, confident decisions in the digital world. The webinar will be recorded, and by registering you consent to being recorded during the session. After the webinar, you will receive:
-
A link to the course resources
-
A certificate of participation
-
Access to the webinar recording (available until the end of the year)
Want to take your learning further?By signing up, you’ll also have the opportunity to become a Tier 2 Trainer, enabling you to share this training with colleagues in your school or organisation. If you choose this option, we’ll provide: In return, we ask that you complete a short feedback survey after delivering your training. Feedback must be submitted by the end of the year. As a thank you, everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a prize draw for the chance to attend a future SLG paid online webinar free of charge!
