Supercharge Your Storytimes

Wednesday 12th November, 9.30am – 3.30pm

Tickets £24, inclusive of VAT.

We’re super proud to offer our fabulous day school. Our super trainers, speech, language and communication authority Karen Wilkinson and early years music specialist Ben Lawrence, will teach the core principles of Storytime while delivering a fun, practical training session.

Karen will share examples of interactive books for story times as we investigate what exactly children are learning when we sit and read a book with them and why it matters. Ben will lead us to explore the magical world of songs and rhymes and why we use them, as well introducing new and practical activities you can take away and use in your Rhymetimes.

Who should attend? For anyone working with children (0-5) including Library Assistants, Early Years Practitioners and Teachers.

Karen Wilkinson has coordinated Bookstart for Wakefield for over 20 years and is Senior Library Officer, Children & Young People. She is passionate and committed to sharing good practice with all those delivering stories with young children. With a Masters in Early Childhood Education and specialising in Early Literacy Development, Karen regularly delivers workshops to early years professionals, health visitors, childcare students and, of course, families.

Ben Lawrence is an early childhood music specialist working for Musica Kirklees and formerly managed Calderdale’s Public Children’s Library Service. He is an Early Childhood Methodology Tutor for the British Kodály Academy and regularly presents at conferences and delivers training on using songs and rhymes for Children Centre and Early Years staff as well as Children’s Library professionals.
