CILIP South West AGM and Professional Development Day

Tuesday 22nd April 2025 at the Engine Shed, Bristol, BS1 6QH, (just a few minutes walk from Temple Meads train station).

9.00am: Engine Shed opens. 

CILIP South West meeting will be in Brunel’s Boardroom.

9.15am: Refreshments laid on

10.30am: Virtual Workshop - Bluesky for Libraries, Archives and Museums.

A virtual workshop offered due to the exploding popularity of Bluesky as an alternative to Twitter. If your organisation is ex-X, Bluesky now offers a genuine alternative, and the workshop covers what works, what doesn’t, starter packs and custom feeds, posting media, and exampled of successful accounts. 

Attendees will benefit from bringing an appropriate device to the session.

The virtual workshop will be run by Ned Potter. He is an Academic Liaison Librarian at the University of York and also a trainer in library marketing, and presentation skills, for various organisations including the Bodleian Libraries, the British Library, and the NHS.

12.15pm: Careers Panel

Helene Russell (KM consultant) will host a panel discussion on alternative careers in library, information and knowledge. Learn about the nature and culture of various sectors, and the skills and qualifications needed to work there.

There are eight library careers videos that can be viewed from the CILIP SW website and the SWRLS website.

1.00pm: Close of morning session. Visit to John Wesley's New Room in the afternoon.

1.00pm: CILIP SW committee members walk with attendees to John Wesley's New Room (20 mins walk). 

  A table has been reserved and food can be purchased.

2.30pm: Group Tour of the Museum and Library at John Wesley’s New Room. 

300 years ago, John Wesley started a mission in Bristol that sparked a worldwide movement, and Bristol’s New Room is the oldest Methodist building in the world. The Reference Library contains over 9,000 books, pamphlets and bound journals of Methodist history, local studies, biographies, and critical studies of John and Charles Wesley and their works.
