The information management and information systems undergraduate programme from the School of Information Management and Technology at Nanjing Agricultural University in East China has been accredited by CILIP.
The Bachelor of Science programme in Information Management & Information Systems is a welcome addition to CILIP’s accredited programmes in Chinese and provides solid preparation for professional practice and a suitable base for anybody entering the library, information and archive professions.
Helen Berry, CILIP’s Development Officer for Learning Providers said “We are delighted to welcome our second provider in mainland China offering more CILIP accredited programmes taught in Chinese. Our expanding overseas family offers quality assurance for learners pursuing careers in the wide range of information and knowledge fields.”
Independent assessor, Ann Hindson, commented particularly on the clear commitment to excellent teaching and the good mixture of theory and practice within the programme which provides an excellent range of career opportunities for students in the information field.

The university is proud of being a pioneer of modern agricultural education, research and a forerunner of four-year bachelor’s degrees in higher agricultural education in China. The department is the third CILIP accredited learning provider in the Far East together with the University of Hong Kong and Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou.
CILIP’s learning provider accreditation is designed to help students choose library, information and archive programmes that cover the essential skills and knowledge and have been rigorously assessed. Programmes are assessed using the CILIP Professional Knowledge and Skills Base which identifies the core knowledge and skills of the profession. The PKSB is a flexible and practical tool which has been designed to be straight forward and comprehensive in order to capture the many different types of skills and knowledge that are expected of a modern information professional.

The School of Information Science & Technology, Nanjing Agricultural University was founded in 2002 with its origin in the undergraduate program of library and information sciences in 1985. The program of Information Management and Information Systems (IMIS) began in 1999. Students study for four years with a thesis at the end of the programme.
