CILIP awards 2019 Student Prize

CILIP is delighted to announce the recipient of the 2019 CILIP Student Prize, Lucy Royle. The prize is awarded for exceptional achievement in the field of LIS studies, either in terms of academic achievement, professional potential or support and development of other students with winners receiving £300.

Lucy is a recent Masters graduate in Library and Information Studies from University College, London. Her nomination came from Dr Charles Inskip, the course director, who commended her for her work across the programme and particularly for her dissertation, awarded a distinction, which explored paraprofessional staff information practice and professional development. She was a winner of the Cowley prize, awarded annually to two distinguished candidates for the MA.

Lucy studied History of Art at the University of Warwick before joining King’s College London as a Library Assistant. She has progressed through several roles at King’s and is now a Library Frontline Delivery Manager. She co-manages a team delivering frontline enquiry support, and is currently focused on enhancing staff skills development to better support information literacy practice and independent learning for students and NHS staff. While working, Lucy completed her MA at UCL, and is now pursuing publication of her dissertation research after presenting at LILAC 2019.

The CILIP Student Prize is open to students completing British courses leading to an academic qualification accredited by CILIP. Nominations are made by the university and each student is invited to submit a 1000 word essay on how they felt the course had enhanced their professional practice in relation to their personal performance, the organisation in which they work and their wider professional context. Recipients must be members of CILIP.

Nominations for the 2020 award will open at the end of the year when all British accredited learning providers will be invited to send in recommendations.
