The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has become the first major government employer to join CILIP’s Employer Partner scheme.

The MOD employs hundreds of information, library, knowledge and data specialists across the UK and will be working with CILIP to further develop their capability in these disciplines and ensure that these skillsets are recognised, developed and invested in throughout the organisation.

CILIP CEO Nick Poole said “We are thrilled to be working with The Ministry of Defence as a Premium Employer Partner. Exploiting their knowledge, information and data will transform the way they work and we are excited to be helping them develop their workforce to meet these challenges through our expertise and professional standards.

The CILIP Employer Partners scheme enables us to help employers in different sectors build their information capability and future-proof their workforce. The addition of the MOD to the scheme clearly demonstrates that our sector is committed to meeting the challenges of the digital information age.”

Jenny Smith, Knowledge and Information Management Capability Lead in the Information Profession Team at the Ministry of Defence, said “Becoming a CILIP Premium Employer Partner is a great opportunity for us. The MOD is committed to developing the best workforce we can and the opportunities provided for training, development and collaboration with CILIP fit our needs perfectly.”

The Employer Partners scheme was launched by CILIP towards the end of 2018. It places a greater focus on working in partnership with employers; ensuring that their voice is clearly heard and amplified to wider stakeholders. Employers are also offered a package to support the development of their workforce including strategic networking opportunities, free places at our employer forum, invitations to participate in CILIP reviews and projects, individual membership packages, access to workshops, discounts on training, and more.
