CILIP, the UK library and information association, has announced the appointment of Professor Judy Broady-Preston as their President for 2020 and of Mr Paul Corney as President-Elect.
Professor Broady-Preston is a leading academic and former Director of the Institute of Professional Development at Aberystwyth University. Her academic career and research has focused on information management and information science. She is Editor-in-Chief of specialist journal Global Knowledge Memory and Communication (GKMC) and a member of the Advisory Board for the International Journal of Integrated Information Management. She is also an Advisory Board member for a number of other prestigious sector journals and publications.
Speaking about her appointment, Professor Broady-Preston commented, “I am delighted to be taking up the role of President of CILIP at this important time in our sector’s development. Both in the UK and internationally, information professionals are helping their organisations and communities meet real-world challenges through information, knowledge and data. I am honoured to represent such a broad professional community through my leadership role with CILIP.”

I am grateful to Past President Ayub Khan for his work on the International Strategy and to Immediate Past President David Stewart for his focus on Evidence and highlighting libraries in the North of England. In my Presidential year, I will focus on the tremendous opportunity to promote leadership and professionalism in our sector, particularly in developing more opportunities for women to take up leadership roles.”
Mr Paul Corney is a globally-recognised leader in the field of Knowledge Management. He is Managing Partner of Knowledge et al, a specialist consultancy based in Eastbourne. Paul currently works with CILIP as a Global Ambassador for the new Knowledge Management Chartership programme. He has worked with leading institutions, companies and Governments worldwide and is the author of the successful KM Cookbook, published by Facet Publishing.
Commenting on his appointment as President-Elect, Paul said, “There is a tremendous opportunity for our professional community to articulate a new role at the heart of our organisations, ensuring that they can capitalise on the knowledge they hold to drive success. As President Elect and a Global Ambassador for CILIP’s Knowledge Management Chartership, I am pleased to be able to lead this important work. I will be working hard to support Professor Broady-Preston in her role as President and I look forward to meeting and engaging with CILIP members throughout the year.”
Mr Corney will succeed Professor Broady-Preston as President in 2021.
