In today’s complex and fast-moving world, employers need to develop the right blend of skills, competencies, attitudes and behaviours to face the future with confidence.
In October 2019 CILIP asked the library, information and knowledge workforce “What does professionalism mean to you?”. The results have been used to form the backbone of the new Workforce Development Hub, which includes guidance for employers on recruiting and developing professional library, information and knowledge management staff.
Investing in professionalism and professional recognition helps employers in all sectors to attract, retain and develop the best and most diverse talent. The Workforce Development Hub has resources, advice and guidance covering all aspects of staff development and aims to provide a one-stop shop for employers looking for ways to develop and future proof their teams.
The Workforce Development Hub includes information on what makes an outstanding professional and the CILIP Professionalism definition, as well as resources to help with everything from how to recruit staff, developing a team using the Professional Knowledge and Skills Base (PKSB) and supporting them through Professional Registration.
The new Hub also brings together existing information for employers including how the CILIP Employer Partner scheme can help embed professional library, information and knowledge management skills in an organisation, and the sector-wide Workforce Development Strategy 2019-2024, which supports the development and diversification of the entire knowledge, information, data and library sector.
