CILIP is delighted to launch campaign assets for Libraries Week 2020, recognising the amazing contribution that libraries make to the UK’s book culture. Libraries Week is a weeklong celebration of the nation’s much-loved libraries organised by CILIP, with a focus this year on celebrating books and reading.
Libraries Week will take place between the 5th and 10th October and will showcase how libraries are engaging communities through reading, providing access to and developing diverse collections and enabling digital reading through ebooks, magazine and audiobooks. This Libraries Week, we will be celebrating the significant contribution that libraries make to building a nation of readers and acknowledging the remarkable efforts made by libraries to keep the nation reading, providing comfort, companionship and escapism during challenging times.
The 2020 campaign assets include downloadable posters in five eye-catching designs, editable templates and accompanying social media graphics for libraries to promote their services and activities online.
Chief Executive of CILIP, Nick Poole, commented: “It has been tremendous to see the innovative and thoughtful response of libraries during the unprecedented times the nation has been facing. With Local Authorities reporting huge increases in the number of people registering with their local library (in some cases, a rise of 600-700%), it is evident that libraries have been a lifeline for many people in lockdown, keeping them connected to a world of books and reading and continuing to provide vital digital services.”
“Through library-led initiatives such as the #NationalShelfService and #LibrariesFromHome led by our friends at Libraries Connected, you can get a sense of the sheer diversity of what libraries are doing. With public libraries across the nation set to open from 4th July, librarians are starting to plan for the gradual, safe restoration of essential face-to-face services that allow them to serve all of their community. Libraries Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and thank librarians for the incredible work they do and also to showcase the amazing ways they contribute to building a nation of readers.”
Libraries Week 2020 is sponsored by Nielsen Book and OverDrive. As a leading provider of services to the book industry, Nielsen Book aids the discovery and purchase, distribution and measurement of book borrowing to help libraries meet the needs of their users. Nielsen Book is supporting Libraries Week for the third year running, while OverDrive lend their support for the second year in a row. As the leading digital reading platform for libraries and schools in the UK and worldwide, OverDrive supports public libraries with the industry’s largest catalogue of ebooks, audiobooks and other digital media available through Libby, their award-winning one-tap reading app. CILIP is proud to collaborate with Nielsen Book and OverDrive on this year’s celebrations.
As well as eye-catching designs showing people and families enjoying a great read, CILIP has produced an editable social media graphic and is inviting people to insert themselves into the frame to share a reading selfie. As a partner of the BBC Novels that Shaped our World Project, CILIP is encouraging people to share their personalised graphics to the Novels hashtag #MyBookLife and #LibrariesWeek.
