Let the government hear your voice on professional qualifications

Help strengthen the case for professional qualifications and recognition in our profession by responding to the BEIS consultation by 23rd October

CILIP encourages its members, Employer Partners and Learning Providers to respond to the BEIS call for evidence on professionalism.

CILIP would like to encourage its members together with its Employer Partners and Learning Partners to respond to the latest call for evidence from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) on the recognition of professional qualifications and the regulation of professions.

We have been concerned to see an increasing tendency within Government to question the regulatory basis of professions, including Chartered professions. A recent report from the Institute of Economic Affairs suggested that professionalism is anti-competitive and exclusive. CILIP believes that the best way to create a strong and diverse library, information and knowledge management profession is not to undermine the regulatory basis of professional qualifications but to ensure that pathways to professionalism are as accessible and inclusive as possible.

As a CILIP member, employer of LIS professionals or an LIS education provider, we believe that it is important for you to make your voice heard in order to strengthen the case for professional qualifications and recognition in our profession. The call for evidence closes on the 23rd October and you can respond online at https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/recognition-of-professional-qualifications-and-regulation-of-professions-call-for-evidence.

If you do submit a response to this call for evidence, we would be very grateful if you could let us know by emailing nick.poole@cilip.org.uk.
