The Professional Knowledge and Skills Base (PKSB) is being refreshed
The CILIP Professional Knowledge and Skills Base (PKSB) is the skill standard for the knowledge, information and library sector. A CILIP-led expert working group created it in 2014. It defines the skills that unite
the whole sector, provides a common language and a benchmark for transferable skills. With CILIP’s Ethical Principles at its heart, the PKSB underpins all of CILIP’s workforce development activity for the sector.
Whilst our ethics and values endure, the services the sector provides and therefore the skills needed change over time. As such, the PKSB needs review to ensure it is meeting the needs of the sector. Through 2020, a cross-sector team of
expert peer reviewers have updated the content into a Draft Revised PKSB. Through December and January, we will be inviting key internal and external stakeholders to review and comment on the draft. The feedback will shape the final
version of the Revised PKSB content. This will be put to the CILIP Board of Trustees for approval in early 2021, ready to be integrated into the CILIP services and launched later in 2021.
