CILIP launches new report into new technologies and the information profession

Tech Review

CILIP has launched a new research report into the impact of AI, machine learning, automation and robotics on the information profession.

The independent research, authored by Dr Andrew Cox from Sheffield University, examines how these new technologies are impacting the daily work of healthcare information professionals or how they are likely to do so in the near future.

Nick Poole, CILIP CEO said, “This is a real call to arms for the information profession, our sector really is the best placed to maximise the benefits of AI, machine learning, automation and robotics for information users while mitigating the emerging risks.

The publication of this report is a milestone in the development of our professional community. There is a tremendous opportunity ahead for the information professions and thanks to this research we are well-placed to capitalise on it.

Working together, we can help our users look ahead with confidence to a near future that is being transformed by AI, machine learning, automation and robotics.”

The full research report, published by CILIP with the support of Health Education England, sets out a detailed and methodical analysis of the challenges and opportunities presented by this new generation of technologies.
